Jason Edwards has over 20 years of IT/Cybersecurity experience in various sectors such as military/government, insurance, digital security, banking, and energy. Jason currently works for USAA as the Compliance Director/Lead for Cybersecurity. He serves as the principle compliance advisor for the USAA CISO and Information Security staff on regulatory cybersecurity compliance matters.
Jason is a 22-year veteran of the US Army as both enlisted soldier and officer. Jason has served in both combat arms and as an IT/Cyber officer with multiple tours of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan. During his service Jason received numerous awards and decorations including the Defense Meritorious Service medal and the Bronze Star.
Jason has earned the CISSP as well as both a B.S. and M.S. in Information Technology/Security. Jason is currently in his final year of a doctoral program working to complete a dissertation on the ‘Regulatory Cybersecurity Testing of Financial Institutions.’ After earning his doctorate, Jason intends to pursue a second doctorate and possibly teach at the doctoral level.
Jason is a guest speaker and author for compliance and security conferences. He is currently scheduled to speak at Cyber Texas 2018 here in San Antonio, CyberHub 2018 in Atlanta and Know 2019 in Las Vegas. Jason enjoys research on both Cybersecurity and Regulatory Compliance topics.
Jason and his family enjoy living in San Antonio and spending time outdoors. Jason is married to Selda, originally from Turkey, and they have 4 children, Michelle (21), Chris (19), Ceylin (9) and Mayra (7). They also have one Beagle, who wrote this bio.
